Group payments
Must I create a group to be able to request a group payment?
You can send group payments to an existing group or create a new group with the contacts you wish to send a group payment request to.
Note: You cannot select group members from a country where Viber Pay isn’t yet available.
Can I set individual amounts per group member?
Yes, you can set custom amounts per member if you select the split bill request type.
Do I have to specify the total amount to be paid?
A group payment request must have a total amount only for split bill requests, collect money requests do not require a target amount.
For split bill requests, unless custom amounts are defined, the total amount will be divided evenly between the selected group members.
What is the maximum amount I can request?
The maximum amount you can request in a single group payment is 4,500 EUR.
How many group members can I request a payment from?
You can request a payment from up to 249 group members.
Can I send a group payment request to someone outside the group?
No, you must first invite the contact to the relevant group.
How do I send a group payment request?
To send a group payment request:
- Open Rakuten Viber on your phone
- Tap on Chats
- Tap on the group where you want to send a group payment request
- Tap on the wallet
, or tap on the group name and then on Collect money from group
- Choose between Collect money
and Split bill
- Tap on Next
- Select the group members you want to send a payment request to
- Tap on Continue
- For Split bill payment requests - enter the total payment amount (Optional: add reason, enter manual amounts for every group member)
Can I hide/display who paid and how much?
The amount paid by each group member is hidden by default and is visible only to the payment request initiator.
What happens when I cancel a group payment before it’s completed?
If a payment request is canceled after some group members have made payments, the paid amount will remain in the payment request initiator’s Viber Pay wallet.
Can the same group have more than one group payment active at the same time?
Yes, multiple group payments can be active in a group simultaneously.
A group member is grayed out when I try to add them to a group payment
If a group member is grayed out during the group payment creation process, it means that the user is from a country where Viber Pay is currently unavailable, or you might need to save the person to your contacts before adding them to the payment.
How many group payment requests can I send/have active at the same time?
There is no limit to the number of payment requests you can send or have active at once.
Must I have a Viber Pay wallet to fulfill a group payment?
Yes. You can either create a wallet by going to the Viber Pay tab or by attempting to pay a group payment request.
How can I close the group payment?
To close a group payment request:
- Tap on the relevant request bubble
- Tap on the Details
- Tap on Manage
- Tap Stop collecting
Where can I check who has and hasn’t paid the group payment?
To see who has paid the payment request tap the relevant request bubble.
