Set up a Viber Pay account - Philippines
To open a Viber Pay wallet*, your identity must be verified. This helps prevent fraud and protect you from identity theft.
*Viber Pay is currently open in Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, Germany, and the Philippines. If you live in any of those countries and can’t see the Viber Pay tab, please update the Rakuten Viber app to the latest version.
Accessing Viber Pay
Viber Pay can be found on Rakuten Viber app's main screen. Tap on Pay to open Viber Pay.
Joining Viber Pay
When you first open Viber Pay, you’ll need to provide the following details:
- Location: Your primary country of residence as per your ID. If your country isn’t listed, you won’t be able to use Viber Pay yet
- Legal first, middle, and last name exactly as they appear on your ID
- Date of birth: You must be over 18 to use Viber Pay
- Email: This email address will be used for all Viber Pay communication, including account recovery and updates. You can use the same email address that you already provided us in other areas of Rakuten Viber or enter a new one (this will become your primary email address on Rakuten Viber)
- Nationality: You must be Filipino citizen to use Viber Pay in the Philippines
- Source of funds: The one main source where the majority of your funds will come from
- Residential address: The address of your residence
- PIN: You need to set up 2-step verification if you haven’t done so already
Opening a Viber Pay wallet is easy and usually takes under a minute. You will need an official document such as your Passport or Driving License to get verified. Verifying your identity helps prevent fraud and protect you from identity theft.
Once your account is open, you can add money to your wallet via other e-wallets, a bank account, or over-the-counter and start sending and receiving money on Rakuten Viber.
Please note that without verification, you can use your wallet and enjoy a maximum balance limit of ₱50,000, a monthly in-flow and out-flow transaction limit of ₱10,000 and an aggregated yearly in-flow transaction limit of ₱100,000. Once this limit is reached, or after 12 months, you must complete verification to continue sending money on Viber Pay. Tap Verify my identity to complete the process and increase your balance limit to ₱100,000 and your monthly in-flow and out-flow limit to ₱100,000.
Verify your identity
Since the Viber Pay feature involves transferring money, Paynamics (our payment service provider partner) must verify your identity. This allows them to remain compliant with payment regulations and is a security measure against fraud and identity theft.
You can join Viber Pay and enjoy making free transactions up to a total of ₱100,000 for the first 12 calendar months. After this, you will need to verify your ID to continue adding and sending money.
*Paynamics is a licensed electronic money institution in the Philippines that provides payment services to you.
Upgrading to a verified wallet
To increase your balance limit to ₱100,000, your monthly in-flow and out-flow limit to ₱100,000, and withdraw money outside of Viber Pay, upgrade for free to a verified wallet:
- Selfie: Either upload a selfie from your photo album or take a new selfie by tapping on the camera. Please ensure that the photo is clear and of good quality.
- Submit a document: You can take a photo or upload any national identity documents listed on the screen (the document must include a photo of you).
The verification process may take a few minutes to complete; you’ll be notified if/when your documents have been approved.
*Start by tapping your profile picture on Viber Pay and tap Increase limit. For more information on limits, please review our dedicated article: Payment Limits on Viber Pay.
