Personalize your chat theme
Change the chat background and color of your messages to create a look that's entirely yours.

Make your conversations more you by customizing your chat backgrounds and message colors. You can choose a new look from our gallery or create your own unique look.
How do I change my chat theme?
On your phone:
- Open Viber on your phone
- Tap More
- Tap Settings
- Tap Appearance
- Tap Chat theme
- Select a new theme from the gallery or tap Customize your theme
- Tap Set to apply your changes
On your desktop:
- Open Viber on your desktop
- Click on your profile picture
- Click Settings
- Click Appearance
- Select a new theme from the gallery
- OR
- Click Customize your theme and click Set to apply your changes
Notes
- The new look will automatically apply to all of your chats, unless a certain theme is applied to a specific chat
- To customize your theme, you can choose a new background and message bubble color, or upload a photo from your device's gallery to use as a background
- You can always go back to Viber’s default theme by tapping Reset to default in the Chat theme screen
How can I change the theme for a specific chat?
You can change the theme for 1:1 and group chats to give them a unique feel.
Important
- This option is only available for iOS devices
- For communities and channels, superadmins can change only the background for all members / subscribers of the chat. This is relevant for all devices - Android, iOS, and desktop
On your phone:
- Open Viber on your phone
- Go to your Chats
screen
- Tap on the name of the contact, and then select Chat info
- Tap on Chat theme
- Select a new theme from the gallery or tap Customize your theme
- Tap Set to apply your changes
Notes
- The theme you select for a specific chat will override the default theme you set in your app settings
- To go back to the default theme, tap Reset to default in the Chat theme screen for that chat
Will my theme change on my linked devices?
No, your themes will not sync between your linked devices. You will need to set your themes on each device separately.
Will a theme I choose affect other people's chats?
No - the chat theme you set is only visible to you. The people you're chatting with will see their own chat theme. In communities and channels, the background is controlled by superadmins and shared with all participants.
Why doesn't my theme apply to my communities or channels?
If a community or channel has its own custom background set by a superadmin, that background will override your personal background choice.
