Viber to Viber
It’s free to make a voice call, video call, and send messages to other Viber users. To keep our services free, we use VoIP technology.
IMPORTANT
Please note that data usage charges still apply for both the sender and receiver of all communication over Viber. For more information on the cost of using mobile data, please consult with your internet provider.
Using Viber abroad
You can continue chatting with and calling other Viber users for free when you’re abroad in the same way that you do when you’re home.
Tips
- Set up your Viber account before you leave home to avoid roaming charges (you will need to receive an activation code via SMS to activate Viber).
- Roaming charges can be costly so we recommend that you use WiFi as much as possible when you’re abroad. This means that although using Viber is free, you will still be charged by your phone company for using mobile data.
Data usage
The amount of data that Viber uses will depend on many factors. For example, a video call with 8 people will consume a significantly higher amount of data than sending text messages to the group. Sending a GIF will also consume more data than sending a single word message.
Generally speaking, Viber messages require about 1 byte of data per English character, 1 megabyte per minute for voice calls, and 20 megabytes per minute for video calls. This number is a rough estimate and doesn’t take into account how many people are on a call with you, media messages, or received messages.
You can see how much data Viber consumes per day by looking up Data usage in your phone’s settings and resetting the counter every day for a specific time period. This will help you understand how much data Viber uses on average.
Viber Out
To call someone that doesn’t have Viber, you will need to use Viber Out. The cost of a Viber Out call will depend on the country and type of phone number you are calling, and the plan you are using. Viber won’t charge the recipient for accepting a call; however, some phone carriers might.
Tips for using Viber
- Update Viber regularly: We’re always working on improving the app, so make sure you’re using the latest version.
- Use a strong internet connection: For best call quality, use a strong and stable internet connection.
