Set Up Viber on Your Tablet or iPad
Use Viber on your tablet just like you do on your phone and desktop!
Easily sync your tablet with your phone or make the tablet your primary device (find out what that means below).
Notes
- When reading support articles, the information given for phones, compared to the desktop, will be most relevant for your tablet.
- Not all features that are available on the phone or desktop will be available on the tablet.
- You can’t change your Viber phone number on a tablet; this can ONLY be done on a phone.
What is a primary and secondary device?
All devices synced to your Viber account are referred to as either primary or secondary.
If you already have Viber on your phone, your tablet will become your secondary device. If you don’t want Viber on your phone, you can choose to make your tablet your primary device. Once your tablet is activated, you can add your computer as a secondary device.
Primary devices have more features and capabilities:
- Primary devices work independently and don’t require a secondary device.
- You can deactivate other devices remotely using your primary device.
- If you deactivate Viber on your primary device, you will deactivate your secondary devices as well (and shut down your account).
- New contacts can only be saved on a primary device.
- Stickers can only be downloaded on a primary device.
Devices
You can have ONE primary device and an unlimited number of secondary devices:
Phone: Can ONLY be a primary device.
Desktop: Can ONLY be a secondary device.
Tablet: Can be EITHER a primary or a secondary device.

Change your tablet from primary < > secondary device
If you have a tablet that you’re using as a primary device and you would like to make it a secondary device (because you have a phone or another tablet that you want to be primary) follow the steps in the ‘transfer your chat history’ article. You will need to backup your tablet, activate your new device, and set up your tablet as a secondary device.

As soon as you activate Viber on the new device, Viber on your tablet will be deactivated. To use Viber again, follow the instructions in the Set up your tablet as a secondary device section above.
