Set up Viber on your tablet
Overview
Use Viber on your tablet just like you do on your phone and desktop.
Easily sync your tablet with your phone or make the tablet your primary device (find out what that means below).
- When reading support articles, the information given for phones (compared to desktop) will be most relevant for you tablet
- Not all features that are available on your phone or desktop will be available on your tablet
- You can't change your Viber phone number on a tablet; this can ONLY be done on a phone
Primary and secondary devices
All devices synced to your Viber account are either primary or secondary.
If you already have Viber on your phone, your tablet will become your secondary device. If you don't want Viber on your phone, you can make your tablet your primary device. Once your tablet is activated, you can add your computer as a secondary device.
Primary devices have more features and capabilities:
- Primary devices work independently and don't require a secondary device
- You can deactivate other devices remotely using your primary device
- If you deactivate Viber on your primary device, you will deactivate your secondary devices as well (and shut down your account)
- New contacts can only be saved on a primary device
- Stickers can only be downloaded on a primary device
You can have ONE primary device and an unlimited number of secondary devices:
- Phone: Can ONLY be a primary device
- Desktop: Can ONLY be a secondary device
- Tablet: Can be EITHER a primary or a secondary device

The following information won't sync on your tablet:
- 1-on-1 chats
Settings
Certain settings, such as those related to notifications and the appearance of Viber on your tablet, won't sync. This means that you can have different settings on different devices, e.g., use dark mode on your phone while keeping classic mode on your tablet.
Other settings won't be available on your tablet if it's a secondary device and will carry over from your primary device. For example, most privacy settings can only be updated on a primary device.
Change your tablet from primary to secondary device
If you have a tablet you're using as a primary device and would like to make it a secondary device (because you have a phone or another tablet that you want to be primary), follow the steps in the Back up and restore your chat history article. You will need to back up your tablet, activate your new device, and set up your tablet as a secondary device.
As soon as you activate Viber on the new device, it will be deactivated on your tablet. To use Viber again, follow the instructions above.
You can make a tablet your primary device if you no longer want Viber on your phone.
To make your tablet your primary device instead of your phone (Android only):
- Open Viber on your tablet
- Tap on More
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Account
- Tap Deactivate account
- Confirm
- Back up Viber on your phone
- Follow the instructions in the section above
Activation and registration issues
Your activation code will be sent to the phone number you enter on the Viber welcome screen. If you didn't receive the code, tap Resend code or Activate via call.
If your SIM card is associated with the phone number you entered on your tablet, you will receive the activation code on your tablet.
Try one of the following options if Viber's QR scanner isn't working for you:
- Scan the QR code using the default Camera app on your phone
- Try with both the front (selfie) and back camera
- Use a different QR code scanning app
