Birthday reminders and notifications

Never forget a birthday again with Viber’s birthday reminders and notifications.

Send fun animated birthday wishes to your contacts, and don’t forget to let everyone know when it’s your birthday too!

When you open Viber, you will see in-app reminders if one or more of your contacts has a birthday.

To quickly send a birthday greeting:

Make your message extra special with a birthday animation.

Either click on a birthday reminder banner or type "Happy birthday" (available in most languages) in a chat, and both you and the person you’re sending the message to will see a fun animation pop up on the screen.

To see the animation again, tap on your message.

Important
Birthday animations sent in groups and communities will only play when you tap on the message.

You will know it’s someone’s birthday if:

• The person is saved in your contact list
• The person is over 16 years of age (UK 18)
• You have sent a message to that person on Viber (in a 1-on-1 chat) in the past 12 months
• Their privacy setting is set to allow for their birthday to be shared
• Your settings allow for birthday reminders and notifications to be received

Dismissing a birthday reminder will remove all banners and alerts related to a contact’s birthday. Otherwise, reminders will automatically be removed the following day.

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. In the chats screen, long tap (Android) or swipe left (iPhone) the chat with the birthday reminder
3. Tap Dismiss

Banners will also be removed when you send a message to your contact or click the X in the banner.

To remove all future in-app reminders for birthdays:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Notifications
5. Find Show birthday reminders

You will have the option to switch birthday reminders on or off.

Whenever a contact on Viber has a birthday, you will receive a notification on your phone. To change this setting:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Notifications
5. Find Get birthday notifications

You will have the option to switch birthday push notifications on or off.

To share that it’s your birthday with others, you will need to have the correct birth date in your profile (your age won’t be revealed):

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on your display picture
4. Tap on the date under your name
5. Select your birth date
6. Tap Done

Your privacy settings allowing Rakuten Viber to share your birthday:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Privacy
5. Find Share your birth date

You will have the option to share your birth date with other people on Rakuten Viber:

Important

If you are under the age of 16 and are a resident of California or of a country covered by the GDPR, you will not be able to switch your privacy settings to Share.
