Group voice and video calls on Rakuten Viber
Start a group call with your friends, family, or colleagues and see up to 8 people on your phone at the same time!
Want to see up to 60 people together? Need to share your screen? Start a group call from your desktop.
Notes
- You will need to create a new group if you want to call people who are not part of a single existing group
- Some features may not be available in your country
How to start a group call
- Open Rakuten Viber on your phone
- In the Chats screen select the group you want to call
- Tap on either the Audio or Video call button (top right corner)
- Select up to 59 members of the group to join the call
- If the group has less than 59 members, everyone will automatically be selected. Tap on the Checkmark next to the name of a person you do not want in the call
- Members who are not selected to be part of the call will not be notified that a call was made
- Tap Start call
Notes
People who are not in your group can also be added to the call after it has begun. They will not be added to the chat group itself.
Maximum number of call participants
You can have up to 60 participants in a group call (59 plus you).
Add more participants to the call
To add another person(s) to your call:
- Tap on Add to call (in audio-only call) or (in video call - top right corner)
- Your contact list will be displayed; select up to 59 people to be in your call
- Tap Cancel (top left corner) to exit out of the screen
- Tap Done (top right corner) to call the people you selected
How to redial
If a person doesn’t answer a call, you will have the option to redial them by tapping on the Redial button.
Grid view
During a group call, you will be able to see up to 8 people on your screen.
Swipe left to see more participants of the call.
Swipe right to see only the speaker or a screen that is being shared.
Change full-screen view
Bring the small screen (usually the selfie view) to full screen by tapping on it. Switch back by tapping on the small screen again.
Can I view only a specific person during a group video call?
Yes, you can view only a specific person by pinning their video to your screen. This means that you will still be able to hear the other participants, but you won’t see them.
To pin a video in grid view, double tap on the image of the person.
To pin a video in speaker view, scroll across the display pictures of the other participants of the call. When you find the person you want to pin to your screen, tap on their display picture.
To unpin, tap on the person’s display picture.
Muted participants
People who muted their microphone will have a Mute icon next to their name.
Send a message during a call
To send a message to all participants during your call, tap on Chat (in video call - top right corner).
To exit the chat screen, tap on the green banner with your call details at the top of the screen.
Minimize the call screen
Be on your call and continue working on your phone at the same time by minimizing your call screen.
Android
To minimize the call screen, tap on the Return arrow (top corner).
The minimized call screen* will be available in the corner of your screen. To reposition it, tap and drag the minimized screen to a more convenient location.
Tap on the call screen and then on Expand in the center to return the call to full screen or tap on the X to close the screen and turn off your video.
To return the call to full-screen open Rakuten Viber again (if you’re still on the app, you’ll need to open it again from your home screen).
*This feature is not available on phones using Android version 5.0 or lower.
iOS
To minimize the call screen, tap on the Return arrow (top corner).
The minimized call will appear as a green banner at the top of your screen. Tap on the banner to return the call to full screen.
Share screen
You cannot share your screen during a phone call; this can only be done on the desktop.
To view a screen that is being shared, swipe right.
How do I know I’m receiving a group call?
A call from members of a single group will be displayed using the group’s name.
If your call is from people who don’t have a group in common, you will see the name of the call initiator plus the number of other participants in the call.
Can I return to a call if I get disconnected?
Yes. If the call is still active, you will see it in your Chats screen. Tap on the chat to rejoin with video or just audio.
Call settings
To view the call settings panel during a video call, tap on your screen.
You will have the following options:
- - toggle speaker on/off
- - toggle your camera on/off
- - toggle your microphone on/off
- - toggle between your front/rear camera
- - hang up the call
- - tap to find Send message and Transfer call
