Request, review, and delete your data on Rakuten Viber
Your privacy matters to us. It’s important that you’re aware of the data that we collect when you use Rakuten Viber and have control over your Rakuten Viber account.
This article explains how to request your Rakuten Viber data file, what is included in the data file, and how to delete your data from our servers.
Why does Rakuten Viber collect data?
Rakuten Viber needs to collect data so that the app can function and also to help improve products and services. For more information, please review Rakuten Viber’s Privacy Policy.
Request your data file
You can request to see the data that Rakuten Viber has collected and attributed to your account. As this file may contain sensitive information, we recommend that you keep it safe and not share it.
To request your data file:
- Open Rakuten Viber on your phone
- Tap on More
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Privacy
- Tap on Personal data
- Tap on Request your data
- Tap on Continue
- Tap on Confirm
Within 14 days, you will receive a zip file containing your data in a message from Rakuten Viber, on your phone.
How to open your data file
The best way to view your data file is to forward it to your email or save it in a cloud account, and open it using a JSON viewer on your computer:
- Open the zip file on your computer
- Google JSON viewer
- Open the website
- Copy and paste the contents of the zip file into the JSON viewer
- If the data isn’t formatted automatically, select Viewer or click Format if you are in Text mode
Data files are large and may take a few minutes to load.
IMPORTANT
Your data file contains your personal information. Make sure that the JSON viewer you choose is from a trusted source and that you understand their terms and policies before you use it.
What’s included in the data file?
This section includes general information about your Rakuten Viber account and devices.
- Phone number: your phone number on Rakuten Viber
- Name: your name on Rakuten Viber
- Photo link: a link to your current display picture on Rakuten Viber
- Date of birth: your date of birth

Devices: details on each device connected to your Rakuten Viber account, including:
- Operating system version number
- Rakuten Viber version number
- The device type
- The language used on the device and on Rakuten Viber
- First and last activation date of the device
- Last login date from the device
- Last IP address that the device used
- Last country, region, and city that the device was used in
- Address book: the names and phone numbers of all the contacts saved on your phone
- Connected apps: such as Rakuten Games
This section includes information related to your Viber Out account.
- Phone: the phone number connected to your Viber Out account
- Country: based on the country code of your phone number (not your current location)
- Currency: the currency in which you will be charged for your Viber Out purchases
- Email: the email address associated with your account
- Auto top-up: true will be displayed if you are subscribed to automatic top-ups of your Viber Out credit, otherwise you will see false
- Balance: the amount of Viber Out World credit you have
- Frozen: the amount of frozen Viber Out World credit you have

Purchase history: details for each Viber Out purchase you made:
- Date of purchase
- The order ID
- The cost of the product in the aforementioned currency
- The name of the product
- The payment method

Call history: a record of all the calls you made using Viber Out:
- The time and date of the call
- The duration of the call
- The phone number you called
- The cost of the call in the aforementioned currency
This section includes the product and campaign IDs for the following sticker types:
- Sticker downloads
- Sticker purchases
- Sticker promotional redemptions
This section contains a selection of actions that you performed on Rakuten Viber, such as sending a photo, sharing a link, or joining a community.
Please note that the details are very general and only consist of the time and date that the action was last performed. Message content information is not available to Rakuten Viber and therefore cannot be presented in your data file.
This section lists:
- The bots that you are subscribed to
- The groups that you are in (only the number of members is shown, not the group name or the names of other members)
- The communities/channels that you are a part of (including their name and your role within them)
This section contains information on data relevant to Rakuten Viber’s marketing efforts, such as your timezone, if you’re on Rakuten Viber’s mailing list, and whether your privacy setting allows for content personalization.
What’s not included in the data file?
Your group and 1-on-1 chats are secured by end-to-end encryption and are therefore not saved on Rakuten Viber’s servers. For this reason, the following information is not available to Rakuten Viber and therefore cannot be presented in your data file:
- Your call history (excluding calls made using Viber Out)
- Your chat content
Delete your data
You can delete your data from Rakuten Viber’s servers at any time. This action will only be applied to data that Rakuten Viber currently holds and not to data collected in the future.
Please note that deleted data cannot be restored.
- Open Rakuten Viber on your phone
- Tap on More
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Privacy
- Tap on Personal data
- Tap on Delete your data
- Tap on Delete data
- Tap on Delete
You will receive a confirmation message once your data has successfully been deleted.
Notes
Deleting your data on Rakuten Viber won't delete your data from any other Rakuten services if you are connected to them through Rakuten Viber. To delete your data from other Rakuten services, please contact Rakuten support.
What will be deleted?
The following information will be deleted from Rakuten Viber’s servers.
- Your name on Rakuten Viber
- Your profile picture
- Your birthdate
- Information received from linked social media networks that you were signed into with Rakuten Viber (you will also be signed out of those accounts when you delete your data)
- Viber Out credit will be permanently removed from your account
- Viber Out plans will not be canceled until you manually cancel them
- Viber Out plans purchased via Google Play, or the App Store can be restored:
- Open Rakuten Viber on your phone
- Tap on More
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Account
- Tap on Purchases
- Tap on Restore
What won’t be deleted?
The following information won’t be deleted from Rakuten Viber’s servers:
- Your Rakuten Viber account
- Your phone number
- Your chat history
- Your call history
- Your billing history, including:
- Sticker market purchase history
- Viber Out purchase history
To permanently delete your data from Rakuten Viber’s servers, you will need to deactivate your Rakuten Viber account.
Upon deactivation, your profile information will be deleted. Nonetheless, we may save records of certain actions you took on our logs for a period of 24 months after deactivation, or 10 years for payment-related records (e.g., if you made a purchase on our Service or if you are a user of Viber Pay).
Those logs contain an identifier that can identify you, and are deleted automatically when their retention period ends. We save these to comply with applicable laws.
This personal data is not available to our day-to-day operations and is protected by strict security measures.
IMPORTANT
Rakuten Viber does not have access to the contents of end-to-end encrypted calls and messages.
