Sync, Add, and Share Contacts

Viber is all about connecting with people, so make sure you know how to sync, add, and share your contacts.
 
In this article, you will also learn how to share your unique QR code with others and where to find information on blocking phone numbers. 

Sync contacts

When you open Viber, your contact list should automatically be synced with the contact list on your phone. If you can’t see all your contacts, try the following:
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Close Viber and open it again.
  • Check that Viber is permitted to access your contact list in your phone’s app permission settings.
  • Update your phone/desktop to the latest version of Viber.
  • Restart your phone.
  • If the issue is on your desktop, restart both your phone and your desktop.
  • If the issue is only with one contact, try deleting them off your phone and then add them again to your contact list.
If the above recommendations don’t work, you can deactivate and reactivate Viber on your desktop (if that is where the issue occurs) or uninstall and reinstall Viber on your phone.
 
IMPORTANT
Please read our article on deactivating Viber before you deactivate or uninstall, as performing such actions may result in loss of chat history.
 

Find contacts that use Viber

To see if your contact has Viber

Phone
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Calls Round icons(4).png
  3. Type in your contact’s name
If they DON’T have Viber, you’ll see the Invite image2.png button next to their name.

Desktop
  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Click on your profile picture next to the Search search.png field
  3. Select Contact List Group 624597.png from the dropdown menu
  4. Click on All
  5. Scroll down the list until you find your contact
If they HAVE Viber, you’ll see the Viber logo image5.png next to their name.

To see a list of only the contacts who have Viber

Phone
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Calls Round icons(4).png
  3. Scroll down to the second half of the screen, where you will see an alphabetical list of all your contacts
  4. Tap on Viber at the top of the list
Desktop
  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Click on your profile picture next to the Search search.png field
  3. Select Contact List Group 624597.png from the dropdown menu
  4. Click on Viber only
 

Add contacts

Please note that you can only add a new contact using your phone.
 

Save a phone number to your contact list

Saving a phone number in Viber will automatically also add it to your phone’s contact list. 
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on More more(1).png
  3. Tap Add contact Round icons(6).png
  4. Enter the phone number (including the + and the country code)
  5. Tap Continue (Android) or Done (iOS)
  6. Tap the Checkmark check.png (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm

Add a contact using their QR code

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on More more(1).png
  3. Tap Add contact Round icons(6).png
  4. Tap Scan QR code
  5. Ask the other person to show you their QR code
  6. Scan their QR code
  7. Tap the Checkmark check.png (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm

Add someone who just sent you a message

When you first interact with someone on Viber, a banner will be displayed allowing you to add the person to your contacts list.
Tap on Add to contacts and then the Checkmark check.png (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm.

Add someone you have an existing chat with

  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats ic.png
  3. Tap on a chat with the person you want to add to your contact list
  4. Tap Info blobid69.png (Android) or the name of the chat (iOS) at the top of the screen
  5. Tap Chat info
  6. Tap Add contact Round icons(6).png
  7. Tap the Checkmark check.png (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm

Add a contact that was shared with you

When someone shares a contact with you, tap Save contact on their info card and then tap the Checkmark check.png (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm.

Save a contact’s new number

When your contact changes their phone number or Viber, you will see a banner at the top of your chat. Tap Save new number to update your contact’s information in your contact list.

 

Show your QR code

New friends can easily add you to their contact list using your QR code:
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on More more(1).png
  3. Tap on the QR code jdrjytrf.png icon (top of the screen)
  4. Show your QR code to your friends 

Share a contact

Share a contact’s details (name and phone number) with another contact:
Phone
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats ic.png
  3. Select the chat you would like to share a contact with
  4. Tap More more(1).png (bottom corner)
  5. Tap Share contact f7f0d2cc-3ac0-4f99-a333-436c06422db8.png
  6. Select the contact
OR
  1. Open Viber on your Phone
  2. Tap on Chats ic.png
  3. Click on the contact you would like to share
  4. Tap Info blobid69.png (Android) or the name of the chat (iOS) at the top of the screen
  5. Tap Chat info
  6. Tap on Share contact f7f0d2cc-3ac0-4f99-a333-436c06422db8.png (under the display picture)
  7. Select with whom you would like to share the contact
  8. Tap Send d5e640db-6862-4d51-be1b-23f8570a3aee.png or Done (iOS)
Desktop
  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Select the chat you would like to share a contact with
  3. Click and drag a contact from your chat list into the chat screen
OR
  1. Open Viber on your Desktop
  2. Click on the contact you would like to share
  3. Click on Info blobid69.png
  4. Click on Share contact f7f0d2cc-3ac0-4f99-a333-436c06422db8.png (next to the contacts name)
  5. Select with whom you would like to share the contact
  6. Click Share
