Back up your Viber chat history

Bought a new phone? Want to reinstall Viber? Afraid your phone will get lost or stolen? Make sure you backup your Viber chat history to continue using the app exactly where you left off.

You must use your phone to back up your chat history; backup is unavailable on Desktop or Tablet (unless it's your primary device).

Note

Update to the latest version of Viber before backing up your chat history.

We recommend that you adjust your settings to automatically backup your chat history. Regular backups help ensure that your Viber history is safe, even if something happens to your phone.

Other times that you may want to manually backup your chat history include:

• Before you uninstall Viber from your phone
• When you get a new phone and want to transfer your data to it

To back up your chat history, you must first make sure that Viber is connected to either your Google Drive (Android) or Apple iCloud (iPhone).

Android

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More  
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Account
5. Tap on Viber Backup
6. Tap on Settings in the Not connected to Google Drive section
7. Select an account that you would like to back up your Viber chat history to

Note

Huawei phones without Google Drive should connected and back up to Huawei Drive.

iOS

1. Open Settings on your iPhone
2. Tap on your Apple ID (top of the screen)
3. Tap on iCloud
4. Make sure that Viber is switched ON

Manually backing up your chat history will take time and data, so make sure that you are connected to a stable wifi network:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Account
5. Tap on Viber Backup
6. Select if you want your Photos and Videos to also be backed up
7. Tap on Back Up

Note

If you have a new phone or reinstalled Viber, you will need to restore your chat history.

To ensure that your chat history is always up to date, we recommend a daily auto backup of your data.

To turn on auto backup:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on More
3. Tap on Settings
4. Tap on Account
5. Tap on Viber Backup
6. Tap on Auto Backup
7. Choose how often you want an auto backup to be performed:*
   • Daily
   • Weekly
   • Monthly
8. Select if you want your Photos and Videos to also be backed up

*To turn off auto backup, select OFF.

Notes

• iPhone: Auto backup will only be performed when you are connected to WiFi
• Android: You can choose auto backup to be performed when connected to cellular data

• Chat history (text messages, and photos and videos if selected)
• Groups and Communities memberships
• Profile information
• Purchased stickers
• Viber Out subscriptions and plans
