Manage your media and storage

Storage management allows you to see how much space Viber uses on your phone or tablet and delete unnecessary files.

Storage management can be found in your Settings:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap More
3. Tap Settings
4. Tap Storage

After a few moments, you’ll see how much total space you have on your device, how much free space you have left, how much space Viber uses, and how much space each chat uses.

You’ll also see how much space Rakuten Viber media uses, which includes media content, such as videos and photos, that you can remove on this screen.

Other apps refers to media content that can’t be deleted through this screen and space taken by non-Rakuten Viber apps.

Cache files are messages that can be reloaded even if you clear them, such as those found in communities and channels.

Inside Storage, tap Clear cache files to temporarily delete the contents of the chats for yourself (other participants won’t be affected). When you open the chat again, only the messages you see (either because they’re new or you scrolled through old messages) will be downloaded.

Media files (videos, photos, and GIFs) can take up a lot of space on your device and should be the first items to delete when you want to free storage space.

To delete media files from the Storage management screen:

1. Select a chat
2. Tap on a media item to view it on fullscreen
3. Tap on Trash in the top corner
4. Tap Delete item

To delete multiple items:

1. Select a chat
2. Long tap on any item (Android) or tap Select at the top of the screen (iOS)
3. Tap on the media items you want to delete or choose Select all
4. Tap on Trash in the bottom corner
5. Tap Delete item

You can clear a chat to free up even more space on your phone.

To clear a chat:

1. Open Viber on your phone
2. Tap on Chats
3. Select a chat
4. Tap the name of the chat at the top of the screen
5. Tap Chat info
6. Tap Clear chat content
7. Select Clear
