AI on Viber
Overview
Experience the future of messaging with Viber's ChatGPT-powered features.
These features are supported by OpenAI and are designed to make your conversations more efficient and engaging.
If you are a Viber user from the European Economic Area (EEA), please refer to this article.
- The new experience is available from Viber version 28.0.0
- The ChatGPT-powered features may not be available in all regions
Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features are provided through an integration with OpenAI. To use them, Viber sends OpenAI the information needed for ChatGPT to provide the feature. Before your first use, Viber will show you a screen with links to the OpenAI Terms (https://openai.com/terms) and OpenAI Privacy Policy (https://openai.com/privacy). By continuing, you agree to the OpenAI Terms and acknowledge the OpenAI Privacy Policy.
How ChatGPT-powered features use data
When you use a ChatGPT-powered feature, Viber sends OpenAI the information needed to provide that feature. This also includes a Viber-generated hashed user ID and timestamps that help provide and operate the ChatGPT integration and apply usage limits, as well as approximate location information, such as country and city level, to determine feature availability in your region and help make responses more relevant. Other information sent depends on the feature you use, as described below. You should treat any information you choose to share through these features in the same way as information you would provide directly to ChatGPT, including when it includes sensitive or personal information.
OpenAI may review content for safety. ChatGPT can make mistakes, so check important information before relying on it. Use of ChatGPT-powered features is also subject to OpenAI’s Usage Policies (https://openai.com/policies/usage-policies/).
OpenAI does not use data sent from Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features in Viber personal and group chats to train its models. For these features, OpenAI may retain data for a limited period, and may keep it longer where needed for legal, safety, or security reasons, such as a court order or potential misuse. OpenAI deletes data kept for these reasons once the reason no longer applies. If you connect your ChatGPT account, your activity with Viber’s AI features will be associated with that account and handled under OpenAI’s standard retention policies. Separately, ChatGPT tab conversations are handled by OpenAI under the OpenAI Terms and Privacy Policy, like conversations in ChatGPT.
Staying safe when sharing
Before sharing messages, images, or other content in a chat or group, think about what you share and who can see it. You can delete information you previously shared in a group, and you can leave a group at any time.
Remember that other people in the chat may still be able to forward messages or images, take screenshots, save media, share content to another app using their device’s share options, or manually upload content to ChatGPT or another AI tool, even when Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features are not used.
AI usage and limits
To ensure everyone has a smooth experience, there are daily limits on how many times you can use ChatGPT-powered features like chat summaries, polished messages, translations, image creations, ChatGPT in Chats, and ChatGPT tab.
To continue using AI after reaching your daily limit, connect your ChatGPT account or create one for free. Connecting your account opens a secure OpenAI login or sign-up window and allows you to continue using the ChatGPT-powered features after reaching your basic daily Viber limit, based on your ChatGPT plan. When your ChatGPT account is connected, Viber and OpenAI exchange limited technical connection information to keep the connection working.
- When you reach your limit, a Continue with AI in your chat screen will appear
- Tap on Connect and continue
- Log in to your ChatGPT account in the secure window that opens
- Once connected, you'll see a You’re all set message confirming you can continue
You can now continue using ChatGPT-powered features with a higher daily limit while your ChatGPT account remains connected.

Chat Summary
The Chat Summary feature in group chats quickly summarizes unread messages so you can catch up on the conversation faster.
People in a group can instantly generate a summary of messages they haven't read. This is especially helpful if you've been away from a chat for a while.

- You can choose whether to display the option to summarize messages in chats through your Viber settings. On your phone, go to More → Settings → Calls and messages → turn the AI Summary toggle off or on
- Summaries are powered by ChatGPT
