AI on Viber - EEA
Overview
Experience the future of messaging with Viber's ChatGPT-powered features.
These features are supported by OpenAI and are designed to make your conversations more efficient and engaging.
- The new experience is available from Viber version 28.0.0
- The ChatGPT-powered features may not be available in all regions
Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features are provided through an integration with OpenAI. To use them, Viber sends OpenAI the information needed for ChatGPT to provide the feature. Before your first use, Viber will show you a screen with links to the OpenAI Terms (https://openai.com/terms) and OpenAI Privacy Policy (https://openai.com/privacy). By continuing, you agree to the OpenAI Terms and acknowledge the OpenAI Privacy Policy.
How ChatGPT-powered features use data
When you use a ChatGPT-powered feature, Viber sends OpenAI the information needed to provide that feature. This also includes a Viber-generated hashed user ID and timestamps that help provide, operate, and apply usage limits for the ChatGPT integration. Other information sent depends on the feature you use, as described below. You should treat any information you choose to share through these features in the same way as information you would provide directly to ChatGPT, including when it includes sensitive or personal information.
OpenAI may review content for safety. ChatGPT can make mistakes, so check important information before relying on it. Use of ChatGPT-powered features is also subject to OpenAI’s Usage Policies (https://openai.com/policies/usage-policies/).
OpenAI does not use data sent from Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features in Viber personal and group chats to train its models. For these features, OpenAI may retain data for a limited period, and may keep it longer where needed for legal, safety, or security reasons, such as a court order or potential misuse. OpenAI deletes data kept for these reasons once the reason no longer applies. If you connect your ChatGPT account, your activity with Viber’s AI features will be associated with that account and handled under OpenAI’s standard retention policies. Separately, ChatGPT tab conversations are handled by OpenAI under the OpenAI Terms and Privacy Policy, like conversations in ChatGPT.
Staying safe when sharing
Before sharing messages, images, or other content in a chat or group, think about what you share and who can see it. You can delete information you previously shared in a group, and you can leave a group at any time.
Remember that other people in the chat may still be able to forward messages or images, take screenshots, save media, share content to another app using their device’s share options, or manually upload content to ChatGPT or another AI tool, even when Viber’s ChatGPT-powered features are not used.
AI usage and limits
To ensure everyone has a smooth experience, there are daily limits on how many times you can use ChatGPT-powered features like chat summaries, polished messages, translations, image creations, ChatGPT in Chats and ChatGPT tab.
To continue using AI after reaching your daily limit, connect your ChatGPT account or create one for free. Connecting your account opens a secure OpenAI login or sign-up window and allows you to continue using the ChatGPT-powered features after reaching your basic daily Viber limit, based on your ChatGPT plan. When your ChatGPT account is connected, Viber and OpenAI exchange limited technical connection information to keep the connection working.
- When you reach your limit, a Continue with AI in your chat screen will appear
- Tap on Connect and continue
- Log in to your ChatGPT account in the secure window that opens
- Once connected, you'll see a You’re all set message confirming you can continue
You can now continue using ChatGPT-powered features with a higher daily limit while your ChatGPT account remains connected.
Message translation
Understand any conversation with instant translation powered by ChatGPT.
When you translate a message, the message you choose is sent to ChatGPT to provide the translation.
- Open Viber on your phone
- Go to your Chats
screen
- Pick any chat
- Long-tap the message you want to translate
- Tap Translate
- The translated text will appear below the original message
AI Link Summary
Have you ever received a long article or video link but didn't have time to open it? Now you can get a quick summary without ever leaving your chat. Use AI Link Summary to get a concise rundown of the content right below the shared link.
- The summary is only visible to you. It won't be seen by anyone else in the chat
- The AI Link Summary feature may not be available in all countries
- When you summarize a link, the linked page content is sent to ChatGPT to generate the summary
- Open Viber on your phone
- Go to your Chats
screen
- Select your desired chat
- Find a message with a link
- Tap on the Summarize link button below the message
The Summarize link button will only appear on links with a valid preview (image or metadata). It may not be available for certain websites, private links, or disappearing messages.
When you forward a message with a summarized link, the summary will not be included. The recipient will see the original message and can choose to generate their own summary.
AI Summary
The AI Summary feature in group chats quickly summarizes unread messages so you can catch up on the conversation faster.
People in a group can instantly generate a summary of messages they haven't read. This is especially helpful if you've been away from a chat for a while.
- The feature is on by default for all group chats
- Remember to use AI Summary cautiously. Like any AI, it can generate inaccurate summaries or not understand the nuances of human conversation
- The AI Summary feature may not be available in all countries
- When a summary is generated, the unread group messages and the names shown with those messages are sent to ChatGPT to create the summary
Group admins in the EEA can control the AI Summary setting. If the admin turns AI Summary off, no one in the group can use this function.
On your phone:
- Open Viber on your phone
- Tap on Chats
- Tap on the group where you want to change the setting

- Scroll down to the settings section

- Click the Chat info
button at the top of the chat window
- In the Chat info panel, scroll down to the settings section

- You can choose whether to display the option to summarize messages in chats through your Viber settings. On your phone, go to More → Settings → Calls and messages → turn the AI Summary toggle off or on

ChatGPT Tab
Get instant answers and creative ideas anytime with a dedicated ChatGPT tab. This personal chat assistant can help you plan trips, explain complex topics, or brainstorm projects without ever leaving Viber.
- ChatGPT can only see messages you send directly in this specific chat
- When you use the ChatGPT Tab, Viber sends the messages to ChatGPT so it can respond. If you connect your ChatGPT account, Viber also sends limited technical information needed to keep your account connected
You can use the ChatGPT tab without connecting your ChatGPT account, or connect your account to increase your daily usage limits. If you connect your account, Viber starts a separate logged-in conversation, and your earlier anonymous conversation is not added to it.
- Open Viber on your phone
- Tap the ChatGPT icon in the bottom navigation bar
- Type your question or choose one of the suggested prompts (like "Help me plan a weekend trip")
- Tap Send
Once you’ve started a conversation in the ChatGPT tab, the chat will also appear in your regular Chats list so you can jump back in at any time.
Yes, you can delete your messages with ChatGPT on your device. Your ChatGPT account history will not be affected.

ChatGPT in chats
Add ChatGPT power directly into your one-on-one conversations and group chats. Simply mention @ChatGPT followed by your question, and it will respond directly in the chat for everyone to see. It’s perfect for settling debates, getting a quick translation, or looking up a fun fact.
- If you can’t see @ChatGPT mentions initiated by your friends, please update to the latest Viber version
- When ChatGPT responds, its message will look different from a message sent by a person, making it easy to see who's talking
- @ChatGPT will be the first option in the mention menu when you type “@”
- When you mention @ChatGPT, Viber sends ChatGPT the messages needed to understand and answer the request. This can include recent messages that mention @ChatGPT, the replied-to message that contain the @ChatGPT tag, if relevant, and the requester’s general location to help provide relevant answers
- Open Viber on your phone
- Go to your Chats
screen
- Open any private or group chat
- In the text input field, type @ChatGPT followed by a space
- Ask your question (for example, “@ChatGPT What is the capital of France?”)
- Send the message
- ChatGPT will respond with the answer right in the chat
No, you can use the @ChatGPT mention in any of your private or group chats.
How do I disconnect my ChatGPT account?
You can unlink your account at any time through your settings. After disconnecting, your AI feature limits will be reduced, and some features may become unavailable.
- Open Viber on your phone
- Tap on More
- Tap on Settings
- Tap on Calls and messages
- Tap on Disconnect ChatGPT
- Confirm by tapping Disconnect
- Changing your phone number or re-activating your primary phone will automatically disconnect your ChatGPT account to keep your data secure. You will need to reconnect it manually afterward
- Disconnecting clears your local and server authentication tokens, meaning you must re-verify your terms and privacy agreements if you choose to connect again later
